So the show in San Luis Obispo. Not good! Ok place, nice people at the club. It’s one of those places that you hear, ‘….don’t worry, it’s a Friday. It doesn’t matter WHO is playing there will be 400 people here!’ Well ok. These don’t usually turn out for the best. You get a lot of people who are there just to drink/talk/get laid(and we’re ok with two of those three). Not really there for the music. But what the hell, it’s a new town, it’ll be nice to play for some folks. Well, the band on before the Drams are some local outfit. We should’ve known when we saw their gear that this was gonna be a bad one. All the amps were covered in that ‘mud flap metal’ that you see in every truck stop and/or death metal bar. Yep, you know what I’m talking about. The guitars were in cases that are shaped like mini-coffins. Yes, this means they probably have pointy headstocks, a handle in the body, and are made by someone like Jackson, Parker or Charvel. BIGGEST of negative points. But oh well, we’ll give them a shot. I come back by the club about 4 songs into there set and see 50-60 people leaving terrified. More folks continue to leave and as I get closer I realize why. HOLY SHIT this is terrible. It’s one of those bands that has one guy that ’sings’ and another guy that yells like Cookie Monster in the choruses. Just awful. I felt bad for us and the Drams. Hell I even felt bad for those dudes! Who the hell thought it was a good idea for them to be on a rock and roll show? So the night just blew. Then like clockwork about 8 minutes before our show was done, BAM there were about 600 people dying to get in and shake their asses to the new urban hits! Man you gotta love music!
Fortunately San Francisco was the exact opposite on Saturday. Wonderful show, wonderful club, wonderful experience! Had a couple of the Drams up for ‘Ooh La La’ during the encore. Always fun. Things have gone well enough(excluding SLO) that we’re already working on plans to return to the west coast.
Hoping that will continue tonight in Portland and tomorrow in Seattle.
Lovely day off in the Redwoods yesterday. If you’ve never been through there I suggest making it a point to do so. Incredibly gorgeous and humbling. I dare you to not be moved by it.
Artwork is done for the new live CD, ‘Again Somwhere Tomorrow.’ It turned out really great. This is something that me and the fellas are all really proud of and I think you will be too. It will be out on Feb. 20th. Advanced copies will be available for the two night stand in Greenville, SC on the 16th and 17th. Plus it will probably be available here through SnoCap before that. We’ll let you know. Hope you’ll enjoy it.
All right. See y’all later.
