So as I type I’m preparing to make a cake and cookies for the big family get together tomorrow. Somehow I’ve been put in charge of dessert? So I’ll be attempting a first ever cake from scratch later today. Carrot cake. Or perhaps some other sort of holiday spice cake kinda thing. We’ll see. Plus break and bake cookies. Even I can’t screw those up.
Ok, back to more rock and roll type shit. Last week went out with a bang. Had a WONDERFUL night in Boston. Sold out show which always helps a whole lot. Great crowd, enthusiastic response. We loved it. We were told that the show was sold out about an hour before we played. This is exciting and makes our jobs LOTS easier. So as I do every night I go to the back lounge to get ready and prepare a set list(which is really a set idea, because we don’t really follow it). I thought it would be funny to fuck with Dean and Erson so I made a fake set list that was without a doubt the WORST one ever.
Lover Tonight
Baby Girl
King Of Grey
Someone Else’s Baby
Bible -vs- Gun
Carousel
Ain’t No Sunshine
Heartbreak Avenue
Pocket Full Of Change
Tiny Dancer
etc….
you get the point. All ballads, all the time! I thought they’d look at it, think I was loosing my shit, we’d laugh, that’d be it. I set the list down and walk to the store for some gum. I come back and Dean and Erson are knee deep in learning ‘Tiny Dancer’ because of the 5 times we’ve ever played it, we’ve botched it 4 of ‘em! Russell and I laugh. Dean even makes a cheat sheet for Russell to put onstage. Russ puts a big hoof print in the middle of it and tears part of it out before taping it to Dean’s monitor. Right as we’re walking on I say, ‘…let’s just start with ‘Tiny Dancer. I’ll start it.’ Erson FLIPS!! How am I gonna start it?!?!? I don’t even play and instrument on that song!! He asks me if I want him to give me the right key and I say, ‘don’t worry I got it.’ He’s freaking out. Dean steps on and sees his cheat sheet gone to shit. He’s PISSED!! Then I go right into ‘The Man Who Killed Love’. They caught onto the joke after that and we went into the real set list. Very funny. It certainly made the rest of the set very relaxing for those two.
Next night was Baltimore. I love the 8X10! I love the neighborhood. I love the place they feed us called Mother’s. Just all around good night. We added a Canadian band called Matt Mayes and El Torpedo as first of three that night. Really good band. We’d met a few of them in Halifax during a two night stand with the Trews a while back. They were fun to have along. It was unfortunately the last night of our run with Backyard Tire Fire. To their whole cast and crew it was a damend pleasure! They were pros night in and night out. It was truly our pleasure to have them be a part of this thing with us. We wish them all the best and I ASSURE you there will be more time spent with those fellas in the future.
Looking forward to Birmingham for Friday and Saturday. New t-shirts will be available at the show. We’d hoped to have the new live CD, but we won’t be finishing that until the 2-3 of December. It should be ready right around the holidays.
Speaking of music, make sure you check out the Snocap played here on myspace. ‘The Man Who Killed Love’ is available now. ‘The America EP’ should be up and exclusively available there by next week. Followed with the new live CD fairly soon after. It’s a great new tool for us and will be a way for us to continue to get music directly to you guys as it comes available.
As always, keep spreading the word and we’ll see y’all soon.
